Explore what Milan has to offer during Design Week 2025!
In this tour, we will dive into an itinerary through one of the coolest districts of Fuorisalone… the Tortona area! Like true Milanese locals, between one installation and another, we will trace the history of Salone del Mobile, its key milestones, the evolution of Fuorisalone, and the crucial moments that have made it an unmissable event for the world of design, architecture, and contemporary culture.
But you, giargiàna (a Milanese term for someone who is not from Milan), do you even know what we’re talking about?
Salone del Mobile in Milan is the trade fair held every year in April at the Rho Fiera exhibition center. It was founded in 1961 to promote Italian furniture and home decor exports and to spread the excellence of Italian craftsmanship worldwide. Today, it remains an extraordinary promotional tool for companies in the design and furniture sector.
The Fuorisalone, on the other hand, is the collection of events that take place throughout Milan during the same week as the Salone del Mobile. Fuorisalone emerged spontaneously in the 1980s thanks to the initiatives of design and furniture companies. These events include open exhibitions, immersive art and design installations, evening happenings such as DJ sets, cocktail parties, and exclusive gatherings—engaging experiences where creativity and networking come to life.
What will we find in the Tortona area?
The Tortona Design Week 2025 presents Design rEvolution: Creative Connections, a theme that celebrates the power of connections in the world of design. Special attention will be given to new technologies and artificial intelligence—revolutionary elements redefining design boundaries and driving continuous innovation in the sector. In a constantly changing world, revolutionizing design means embracing innovation and challenging the status quo, evolving towards a more responsible, conscious, and connected approach to design.
Yeah, but after all this, how about a nice spritz?
You're absolutely right… for those who survive the tour, we’ll end the evening with an ape (short for aperitivo in Milanese slang) at a trendy spot, enjoying a DJ set. Taaac!
So, what are you waiting for? Spots are limited! Fill out the form now and secure your place. Figa, if you don't know Milan Design Week, then you don't know Milan!
